On Thursday, December 21, 2023 (the shortest day, or longest night), the new Night Mayor of Tilburg will be announced in De Nieuwe Vorst, in the Cracking Cellar. The selection process will start from November 22.
Night Mayor elections
Who watches over the city once the administration rushes home? Who cares for them: The night owls, the restless. Those with indomitable banging urges. The chain of office will be handed over to the new Night Mayor of Tilburg.
The Night Mayor is an unofficial position that aims to put nocturnal Tilburg on the map by drawing attention to (night) culture such as nightlife, events, theater, film, language, dance and / or music. Although (social) media, visual, installation and graphic are also not excluded. The Night Mayor determines himself how he will interpret the office during his two-year term.
A small selection of the elaborations of the Tilburg Night Mayor as a frame of reference:
- Among other things, René van Densen wrote the book "Tilburg: The Anus of the Netherlands" with drawings and texts about going out in our city.
- Among other things, Godelieve Engbersen released the CD "All 013 good," featuring records by Tilburg musicians.
- Among other things, Gert Brunink organized night walks as a guide to raise awareness of animal nightlife.
