Special Gardens wanted!
This year the 11th edition of the Special Gardens route Tilburg will take place on June 15 and 16. The theme is 'Nature is also culture'. Besides the known participants, the organization is looking for new Special Gardens!
What is a Special Garden?
A Special Garden, a healthy, water- and/or nature-friendly garden. It does not have to be large or designed under architecture, it is about the diversity of plants and flowers and possibly a creative interpretation. In short, a healthy garden. The participating gardens are therefore very different: from private, small city garden or a social collaboration garden, gardens with a colorful theme or special subject or larger gardens in the countryside.
Because 40% of Tilburg's (garden) area is in the hands of residents, we can quite often use a dose of inspiration and see how others organize their gardens.
The 11th edition: Nature is also culture
This theme covers everything that connects us in terms of gardens and gardening, and what we do in our gardens. From vegetable gardening, worshiping the sun, resting, pruning or not, crafting and building, playing and eating! All of these activities belong to urban nature as well as our culture.
Different layout in 2024
Due to the increasing interest and visitors who like to visit gardens by bike or on a walk, the route will be divided into 2 parts this year. From top to bottom, the border runs along the Ringbaan West. On Saturday, June 15, visitors can visit the western side. On Sunday, June 16, the gardens on the east side will be open.
Good example...
Janneke de Vries, organizer since 2017: "Tilburg gardens, compared to other large cities, are much more petrified than desired. As many as 68% of garden owners choose to petrify their gardens to a large extent, which automatically leads to heat storage and also contributes to the heat problem in summer. In the process, healthy, clean rainwater often flows to the sewer instead of being retained in the garden. That's a shame. So again, I often see great ideas or practical examples that inspire for my own garden. These are fine days for both garden owners and garden lovers, and it's a nice bike ride."
Sign up garden
If you want to know if you have a Special Garden, there is the 10 points plan of Growth & Bloom or the 10 yes/no questions when you sign up for a nice indication. If you also want to open up your garden once, you can register yourself on the website of Special Gardens in Tilburg.
