Come to the Birthday of the City

Tilburg turns 215 on Thursday, April 18. This year we celebrate this on Saturday, April 20 in Tilburg Noord! Throughout the neighborhood there will be various fun activities for young and old. From performances on the Wagnerplein to street soccer with two-time world champion Nasser El Jackson in the Ypelaerpark.    

Together with residents 

On April 18, it will be 215 years since Tilburg officially received city rights. Since last year, we celebrate the Birthday of the City together with residents in one of the neighborhoods. Last year this happened in the Reeshof, this year it is Tilburg North's turn. We do this on Saturday, April 20, with a full program of activities at various locations in the neighborhood.  

Official launching moment Birthday of the City 

  • Time: 12.00 
  • Location: Wagnerplein 

The kick-off event for the Birthday of the City in Tilburg North will take place on the Wagnerplein. Besides the official sharing with Mayor Weterings, there are several spectacular performances on stage. From flag waving to hip hop. There will also be the award ceremony for the winners of the City Birthday coloring contest.  

The Story House celebrates the Birthday of the City   

  • Time: 11:30 - 15:00 
  • Location: Round Table House  

Birthday of the City in the Story House (the Round Table House and The Wagnerplein Library) is fun for young and old. The program includes a Tilburgs workshop by the Schrèèfatteljee and performances by Lang & Gelukkig and Meneertje Peertjes' Liedjes Atlas. You can also visit the Round Table House for coffee/tea and a delicious treat from the World Kitchen. 

Here's what's happening in Noord   

  • Time: 14:00 - 15:00
  • Location: District center De Symfonie 

Tilburg Noord is in full development. Together with the neighborhood we worked on an area perspective for Tilburg Noord that describes the future for the neighborhood. In the Symfonie you will learn more about these plans, but also about various other developments in the neighborhood such as ForwArt, In de Wijk Geworteld, energy coaches and neighborhood prevention. In addition, the city poet will present a poem about Tilburg Noord and there will be a photo exhibition by photo club Kontrast.  

Opening new grandstand, street soccer and more   

  • Time: 14.00 - 19.00 
  • Location: Cruyff Court Ypelaerpark  

Do you love to move? Then you'll probably want to celebrate the City's Birthday at Ypelaerpark. At 2 p.m., the opening of the new stand will take place, which, like several other additions, was developed together with young people from the neighborhood. After this, you can attend street soccer, 3X3 basketball, a running competition and a street soccer clinic with two-time world champion Nasser El Jackson. 

Artist in residence    

  • Time: 14:00 - 16:00
  • Location: Parkzichtflat 

The Parkzichtflat next to the Ypelaerpark gets new residents. And very special ones at that. Artists will live and work temporarily in units next to the apartment. From 2 p.m. the current residents can get acquainted with their new neighbors by enjoying a high tea together. At 3 p.m. the official opening takes place.  

Afro & Caribbean indoor event BLK BLOOM 

  • Time: 14:00 - 22:00 
  • Location: District Center De Ypelaer 

During the Birthday of the City BLK BLOOM will take place in community center De Ypelaer. This is an Afro & Caribbean indoor event for young and old. It includes workshops, a market, various activities for children, live music and Afro and Caribbean delicacies. BLK BLOOM starts at 2 p.m. and lasts until 10 p.m.  

Dance performance Sensing Rooftops at Studio Noord   

  • Time: 15:30 - 16:30 
  • Location: Studio Noord (Brucknerlaan near residential care center De Heikant) 

Sensing Rooftops is a dance film and performance in one. The Tilburg dancer Ilja Geelen and filmmaker Yassine Abouhamid take you along on their exploration of different rooftops in Tilburg and Tangier (Morocco). For anyone who feels connected to Arab and Dutch culture and wants to get up close and personal with dance.  

Birthday of the City for parents and children   

  • Time: 11.30 - 16.00 
  • Location: GGD Dirigentenlaan 

The GGD Dirigentenlaan organizes several fun activities for parents and children during the Birthday of the City. Outside on the square, children can participate in rollerblading lessons on a challenging course. Inside, children can get face painting, you can make snacks together, and there is a chat table for parents with fun talking cards. In addition, everyone will receive an activity booklet with ideas for the May vacation. 

Gateway of North 

  • Time: 13:00 - 16:00 
  • Location: Hoffmannlaan (on Von Weberstraat / Wilhelminakanaal bicycle path). 

In the area perspective of Tilburg North there is a plan to provide space for meeting, recreation and catering near the Hoffmannflat and along the canal. During the Birthday of the City you will experience a taste of this with, among other things, a terrace, a popcorn and coffee trick and various fun games.   

The history of Tilburg-Noord by Stadsmuseum and Stadsgidserij Tilburg

  • Time: 11.00 - 15.00 
  • Location: Bridge Lijnsheike and Wagnerplein 

On the Anniversary of the City you can join Stadsmuseum Tilburg and Stadsgidserij Tilburg on a special Heikant walk in Tilburg North at 11.00 am. The start is at the bridge Lijnsheike. You can sign up for this at info@stadsgidserij.nl. In addition, the City Museum is present at the Wagnerplein with an animation about the Birthday of the City on large screen and interviews together with the T-reporters.  

Open day picking garden Mascagnihof 

  • Time: 11.30 - 13.30 
  • Location: Mascagnihof picking garden   

The picking garden Mascagnihof holds open day during the Birthday of the City. Visit the picking garden and enjoy soup and French bread with delicious spreads from the picking garden.  

Photo hunt through the garden

  • Time: 12:00 - 16:00
  • Location: Volkstuin Gossecstraat

Another activity for people with green fingers: flower culture society St. Fransiscus organizes a photo scavenger hunt from 12:00 to 16:00. Upon participation, you will receive a plant from the allotment.

13 & 14 Further on the program 

  • Time: 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. 
  • Location: Various locations 

The Birthday of the City is also celebrated at other locations in Tilburg North. On the Verdiplein you can visit restaurant Trucki, in the Heikant the elderly will celebrate the Birthday of the City with a performance of a sailor's choir and at De Schans the refugee center for Ukrainians will hold open house. In addition, an R-Newt campervan will drive through the neighborhood with delicious snacks.
