Amsterdam Sinfonietta | Philip Glass in India

Minimal music composer Philip Glass wrote his Second Violin Concerto, "The American Four Seasons," as a companion to Vivaldi's famous "The Four Seasons." As early as the 1960s, Glass became fascinated by Indian music.

In Indian ragas, each season has its specific improvisations. These ragas, with traditional singing and instruments, are interwoven throughout Glass's seasons in this concert. Traces of Indian music are also found in "Water" by Jonny Greenwood, known as the guitarist of Radiohead. With a wide palette of classical and modern instruments, he creates boundless sonic landscapes.
