This upcoming fall, one hundred and one acts will tour with the Popronde, the largest traveling festival in the Netherlands. In a three hour broadcast of 3voor12 Radio, 3FM DJ Sagid Carter announced the names of the selection. From Saturday the 11th of September the Popronde caravan will travel through the country and will also visit Tilburg! Hopefully as usual with performances at pop stages, theaters, pubs, churches, clothing stores and barber stores.
Local scene well represented
The selection was made by 160 key figures from the Dutch music sector, including Max de Beijer, Ruud Lemmen and Gert Gering. The selection includes a number of acts that would also tour in 2020. Because the regular edition in 2020 was cancelled and they were unable to play, last year's selection got the chance to sign up again for 2021.
From pop to rock, hip hop to dance, songwriters to metal and everything in between, Popronde offers an up-to-date overview of what's happening in live music in the Netherlands. Popronde shows you the talents to keep an eye on. The 2021 selection follows in the footsteps of Krezip, Kensington, De Staat, Jeangu Macrooy, Rondé, My Baby, Chef'Special, Wies, Haevn, EUT and Froukje among others; they all toured with Popronde before they had their breakthrough to a bigger audience. Check the Popronde website for the complete selection of 2021.
Popronde Tilburg on 28th of October
On Thursday, October 28th the Popronde will visit the city center of Tilburg and of course the city is represented again in the selection for the Popronde. More Ease has been selected to tour out of more than 650 applications. The line up will only be announced 5 weeks prior to the festival, but it is clear that this year the most talented acts will come to Tilburg once again. So mark down Thursday 28th of October in your agenda.
Popronde 2021: 42 cities in 11 weeks
This year Popronde takes place in 42 cities from September 11th till November 27th. Popronde 2021 will kick off in 'home town' Nijmegen. On Saturday September 11th the entire city center will be dedicated to the travelling festival and the book '25 years Popronde' will be presented. After the kick-off the festival will travel on, visiting 42 cities in 11 weeks. Besides Tilburg, Popronde will also visit Eindhoven on October 1, Den Bosch on October 8 and Breda on November 18. On the 27th of November the festival will end with a grand finale in the Melkweg in Amsterdam.
Popronde and corona
Due to the measures surrounding the corona virus, the 2020 edition of Popronde could not take place as intended. Alternatives were found in the Popronde Poppodium Pre-Parties, livestreams and test events. In a year where nothing seemed possible, Popronde still organized 123 performances in 37 pop venues across the country, to give Dutch talent a stage.
In addition, together with The Daily Indie, Popronde Daily was founded. An online blog where news, anecdotes, interviews, podcasts, videos, new music and everything else related to Popronde can be found.
The organization is hopeful that the measures concerning the coronavirus will allow the doors of the catering industry, pop stages, barber stores, churches, coffee shops, museums and galleries to be open again to artists and the public, so that live music can be enjoyed together and without distance. The developments around the virus are closely monitored and the guidelines of the government and the RIVM are followed.
