Deprez
Currently, this old steam boiler factory serves as a location for MindLabs, the Press Group and Tilburg University. MindLabs will move to another location in Spoorzone Tilburg in 2022.
With its brick façade, supporting structure and so-called gable roof, the Deprez steam boiler factory (building 50) on Lange Nieuwstraat strongly resembles the nearby NS workshop buildings. In 1878 it was built as an iron foundry. In 1884 the Antwerp brothers Jules and Ceasar Deprez bought it and set it up as a steam boiler factory. In 1924, the NS workshop took over the boiler factory and iron foundry from the brothers again. In order to ensure unhindered passage between the workshop and the factory buildings, it was decided in 1926 to remove part of the public road, Atelierstraat, from circulation.
The former Deprez factory would change hands several times. In 1960 the municipality of Tilburg bought it and in 1984 the workshop bought it back with the intention of expanding it. Instead, part of the Deprez complex was later demolished. Read more about its history here: h…
