What makes Cool Bananas so much fun?

"In our store we have a bright collection of stuff that just might put a smile on your face. The most important condition the products have to meet is that they are right. And they do that through originality, craftsmanship, humor and design. Therefore, when people ask what kind of store it is, my answer is invariably: a store with fun stuff."

What do people come to your store for?

"The first time is often to be surprised. Then they come back more often because they are looking for a nice gift for someone or just for themselves. People also come by to have a chat, and I really enjoy doing that."

What is typically Tilburgian about your store?

"The most Tilburgian thing about the store? That would be me. Practically my whole life has taken place in Tilburg and I can't imagine ever leaving the city behind. If possible, I also try to add products with a link to Tilburg to the assortment. Think Earth Elements' fine soaps, Shapelab's laser-cut skylines and soccer stadiums and artist Ruben Topia's beautiful book Inner Kingdom."

Who runs the business?

"That's me, Frank Verbunt. Already 35 years old, married with Malou and together parents of two healthy busybodies named Rens and Fien. The past few years it became more and more clear to me that I wanted to do something that makes me happy. With Cool Bananas I now do that every day. And it gives a great feeling when you slowly find out that the public also sees that and that the hard work actually pays off."
