Symposium Vrouw waar ben je nou

On Thursday, Dec. 8, Regionaal Archief Tilburg, together with Feniks Emancipatie Expertise Centrum Tilburg, is organizing the symposium Vrouw, waar ben je nou?

The transfer of special archives from the Second Feminist Wave: those of the Tilburg Vrouwenkafee, het Vrouwencentrum and Feniks is the reason for the symposium.

One of the tasks of the archive is to document society. As yet, Regionaal Archief Tilburg manages few archives on women and emancipation (the Second Feminist Wave). To give future researchers the best possible picture of society in the 1970s through the 1990s, it is important that the archives of the women's movement also be preserved and made available. The archives of the Women's Center Tilburg and Feniks were transferred in 2022.

During the symposium on December 8, several speakers will present a picture of women in archival collections. Three themes will be discussed. Researcher Sanne Schraa and Thijs de Leeuw, BHIC employee, focus on the protesting woman. Within the theme of the invisible woman, Bettemiek Grijns, archivist at Atria Knowledge Institute for Emancipation and Women's History, and Ans Holman of Regionaal Archief Tilburg will speak. The more historical theme, feminists then and now, will be addressed by Astrid de Beer of Regionaal Archief Tilburg and Gerda de Vries, director of Feniks. Gerda shows in an interactive presentation how historical and current emancipation issues are connected.
