ROCK & ROLL ON CANVAS

From Ad Fijneman. The museum had been alerted to his work repeatedly. There was doubt, but the curator of the window exhibitions was immediately enthusiastic. Of course, he stood out with his mismatched socks, quality newspapers, and toilet paper. And with sweaty men on roaring diesels: "Why else do we have a museum?" He was right. For five years now, the museum has been showcasing the local cultural richness to the residents and visitors of our city.

Ivo van Leeuwen: "Ad Fijneman was a late bloomer in art. A hermit-like man who earned his living as a forklift driver. His small apartment was his oasis, where he surrounded himself with books by French, German, and Russian writers, literature, and philosophy. Around his fifties, Fijneman picked up a brush for the first time. Once he tasted painting, it became an obsession. Hundreds of paintings of women's heads. Like a man possessed, he smeared the paint on the canvas. Unburdened by any academic knowledge, he developed a completely unique style in an incomprehensible way. His work is raw, confronting, and touches the viewer's soul. Rock and Roll on canvas."

With great pleasure, The Metropolian invites you to the exhibition 'Ad Fijneman: Rock & Roll on Canvas' at the 'Metropolitan Museum' on Stedekestraat 15 in Tilburg from Friday, November 3 to Sunday, December 24, 2023. Day and night, admission is free.

The opening is on Friday evening, November 3, at 8:00 PM, with a brief introduction by Ivo van Leeuwen and a poetic interlude by Nick J Swarth. You are most welcome.
